Entry Requirement – BSc Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical

  • SSSCE Applicants

Applicants must have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising THREE CORE SUBJECTS in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and THREE SCIENCE ELECTIVES in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • WASSCE Applicants

Applicants must have credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising THREE CORE SUBJECTS in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and THREE SCIENCE ELECTIVES in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • ‘A’ Level Applicants

Applicants must have credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) GCE ORDINARY-LEVEL subjects in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and ADDITIONAL Mathematics and THREE GCE ADVANCED Level passes (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • Mature Applicants

Applicants must be at least 25 years old and must have passes in FIVE SSS LEVEL subjects including English and Mathematics OR CREDITS in FIVE ‘O’ LEVEL subjects including English and Mathematics. The applicants must show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application. In addition, the applicant must have relevant working experience and must pass an interview conducted by the department.

  • International Applicants

Applicants with international Baccalaureate in science are eligible to apply. Such applicants must also possess a proficiency certificate in English. Please note that all certificates should be translated into English. Equivalences with regard to the certificates would be sought at the National Accreditation Board by the University.

  • Progression and Graduation Requirements

The minimum period for completion of the Programme shall be 8 semesters and the maximum shall be 12 semesters. All courses are compulsory. The course will be delivered through lectures, field/laboratory work and tutorials. There will be assessment of students by lecturers and assessment of lecturers by students. Assessment of students would involve:

  1. Record of attendance to lectures (10%);
  2. Continuous assessments for assignments, quizzes, laboratory work, fieldwork and seminars (30%); and
  3. Written end-of-semester examinations covering the various areas of the semester’s work (60%).

Assessment of lecturers by students is done at the end of each semester, two weeks before examinations begin. This is done online by answering a questionnaire under the auspices of the Quality Assurance Unit of the University.

Course Requirements

  • Pass all required courses;
  • Obtain a cumulative weighted average mark of 50% or above;
  • Complete a supervised project work in the final year; and
  • The pass mark of any course is 50%.
