Doctor of Philosophy in Minerals Engineering
The entry requirements for the PhD degree in Mining Engineering in any chosen option are:
- Applicant shall hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent in earth science and related discipline from a recognised institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed programme.
- Applicant who does not hold a Master’s degree shall first register for an MPhil degree. If he/she proves himself/ herself to be academically capable by the end of the first year of the programme, he/she may be recommended to register for the PhD degree; this registration shall be deemed retrospective from the date of the original registration for the Master’s degree
- Applicant who does not satisfy the requirements stated above but is otherwise adjudged suitable, may be admitted
For the purpose of assessing his/her suitability, such a candidate may be interviewed or required to take an entrance examination, or both as directed by the School of Postgraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Departmental Board.
- International Applicants
Qualifications acceptable for consideration for admission include;
International Baccalaureate (I.B.), IGCSE, GCSE, American Grade 13 Examinations, and other external qualifications are equivalent to the WASSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (O and A levels). International students whose first language is not English must have English proficiency from a recognised institution before they can register for the programme. Their certificates shall be certified by the NAB.
Note that an applicant with a Certificate in Minerals Technology from the University, who meets any of the requirements of 6.1, will have to do a one (1) year top-up for the diploma programme.
