Entry Requirement – Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Mining Engineering

Master’s Degree (MSc) in Mining Engineering

The entry requirements for the PhD degree in Mining Engineering in any chosen option are:

  • Applicants who want to study for PhD degree in Mining Engineering must have an MPhil or MSc (by research) degree in Mining Engineering from a recognised University.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s (First Class) degree in Mining Engineering and have been admitted into the MPhil programme may at the end of the first year, if they prove themselves to be academically capable, be permitted by the Board of Postgraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Department of Mining Engineering to register for the PhD degree; the registration shall be deemed retrospective from the date of the original registration for the MPhil programme. The criteria for proof of academic capability to be satisfied by such applicants shall be as set out by the Department of Mining Engineering.
  • International applicants must in addition have evidence of proficiency in English language.
  • As an additional requirement, applicants for a PhD degree may first contact the Head of Department or a potential supervisor in the Department to discuss their proposals before applying. Applicants must submit PhD research proposals in addition to the required documents during the application stage.
